GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
The
Prevention Specialist reports to the Coordinator of the Department
of Health and Prevention.
The Prevention Specialist, under the general direction of the Coordinator
of the Department
of Health and Prevention
or the Department Head is responsible for the day-to-day operations
of the Health Education and Community Outreach responsibilities include
the following: organize, develop, and execute health education programs
for prevention of HIV; to carry out the goals and objectives of the
HIV prevention, outreach and education contract; implement program
activities within the contract time lines; coordinate with other agencies
involved with education and prevention issues related to HIV; assist
in the development of plans to address the educational needs of other
special populations that we do not currently serve in the Metropolitan
Atlanta area; advocate and promote educational needs of the target
population with city, state, and government agencies throughout metro
Atlanta; assist with the planning, development, implementation, and
evaluation of these programs, ensuring that they effectively meet
the changing needs of the target population; management of all the
Education Program duties as deemed appropriate by the Coordinator
of the Department
of Health and Prevention.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Conduct nightclub and street outreach to provide H IV education, prevention, and risk reduction information, appropriate educational materials, and referrals to targeted population.
- Assist in the recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteer outreach team members.
- Assist in the development and/or revision of educational materials appropriate for targeted population.
- Develop practical evaluation methods/tools to document and record program activities and monitor outcome of HIV education, intervention, prevention and risk reduction efforts.
- Keep accurate, up-to-date records and documentation.
- Write monthly/quarterly reports to Contract Monitor and Supervisor.
- Facilitate workshops to targeted population on HIV/AIDS education, prevention, intervention, and risk reduction.
- Serve as a liaison of National AIDS Education/Services for Minorities (NAESM) with other agencies and organizations as directed.
- Develop sites and venues for outreach and workshops.
Assist in developing and implementing curriculum for safer sex techniques learning parties (workshops).
- Participate in meetings and activities as assigned, which support the mission and objective of the department and agency.
- Provide outreach and group workshops to gay (African-American) men of color who are homeless, sex workers, club goers, in recovery, and housing projects.
- Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director/CEO.
- Supervise and assist with HIV education, prevention, and risk reduction information, appropriate educational material, and referrals to target population.
- Assist in the recruitment, training, and coordination of the Department of Health Education & Prevention team members.
Assist in the development, revision, and update of educational materials and program outlines.
- Assist with planning, developing, and evaluating the educational programs to meet the health needs of the community.
Prepare monthly/quarterly reports.
- Other duties assigned.
- Must have dependable and reliable transportation to and from field venues.
- Develops and implements curriculum for safer sex workshops.
- Develops sites and venues for outreach and workshops.
- Conduct HIV 101 counseling sessions, conduct workshops to African-American MMS’s who are homeless, sex workers, bar/club goers, in recovery, and living in housing projects.
QUALIFICATONS
A bachelor’s degree is necessary in Psychology, Health Education, Human Services, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field. Prior experience in working with and/or knowledge of gay men of color from diverse social and economical backgrounds is preferred and comparable to an educational background. Candidate must possess community organizing and leadership skills and the ability to "speak the language" of the targeted population.
