NAESM
ONE OF 100 NONPROFITS SELECTED TO RECEIVE HP TECHNOLOGY FOR COMMUNITY
GRANT
Technology boost from HP to include $17,000 in wireless
technology, cash and training.
Atlanta, GA, May 10, 2006 – National AIDS Education &
Services for Minorities, Inc, (NAESM) has been selected as one of
104 nonprofit organizations in the United States and Puerto Rico
to receive an HP Technology for Community Grant valued at $17,000
in HP wireless technology.
The HP Technology for Community Grant Initiative is designed to
provide technology tools to nonprofit organizations to enhance their
effectiveness and to support the innovative use of mobile technology.
The desired outcome is to build sustainability and capacity for
both the nonprofit and the communities in which they serve.
NAESM will integrate the latest in HP technology, including five
HP notebook PCs, one HP Tablet PC, one HP Pocket PC, a wireless
ready HP digital projector and wireless remote control, a wireless
ready HP all-in-one printer/scanner/fax/copier, a wireless access
point and an HP digital camera bundle. In addition, NAESM will receive
a cash stipend and training from HP to set up a new wireless network.
NAESM intends to use this grant to improve its technological efficiency
and effectiveness to continue providing high quality prevention
and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS. With this
grant, NAESM will be able to do the following: (1) use the equipment
to conduct better workshops and presentations for staff, clients,
and other stakeholders; (2) update its website with new photos from
agency activities; (3) host local trainings for the community; (4)
teach clients basic and moderate computer skills (this will be a
great expansion of our existing programs and is often requested
from clients), for which they can access and download updated medical
treatment information via the web; (5) replace outdated systems
that do not support required software from grantors; (6) take advantage
of learning new networking and computer efficiency skills from HP;
(7) link current computers to share work files and documents; (8)
have quality computer systems available to match improvements via
building renovations; and a lot more.
Rudolph H. Carn, Executive Director, of NAESM states; “What
HP has done not only allows NAESM to improve its services for clients,
but also it allows the staff of NAESM to increase efficiency and
performance. With this grant we see great things in the near future,
including a new computer training workstation for clients.”
“HP is dedicated to making a difference in all communities,
especially those where our employees live and work,” said
Camilla Nelson, program manager, Corporate Philanthropy, HP. “From
environment to community and economic development, the HP Technology
for Community Grant helps nonprofits such as NAESM apply technology
in meaningful and innovative ways to improve the quality of life
for community residents.”
