NAESM, Inc Awarded
NIAID Grant
NAESM was awarded a two year grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
The Division of AIDS (DAIDS) in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) launched the NIAID HIV Vaccine Research Education Initiative (“NHVREI” or “The Initiative”) in 2006. The purpose of the Initiative is to engage national and other organizations to increase knowledge about and support for HIV vaccine research among U.S. populations most heavily affected by HIV/AIDS. The Initiative aims to: (1) increase awareness of the need for an HIV vaccine in communities most affected by HIV/AIDS; (2) improve the public’s knowledge of and attitudes toward HIV vaccine research; (3); enhance the partnership between community and HIV clinical trial researchers; and (4) create support for current and future HIV vaccine trials and foster an environment that supports clinical trial volunteers.
NAESM will primarily focus on the African American men who sex with men community, at Black Gay Prides nationally. It is important that myths and fears that travel thru this community are addressed about research and vaccines . We must be at the table when it comes to research and vaccines, we must do all we can to rid our communities of HIV; and if that means participating in Research Trials-THEN WE MUST DO SO!
