With the many services offered at NAESM, volunteers play a very
important role in helping the programs operate smoothly and successfully.
From answering the telephone, to assisting in the planning of a
fund raiser event, volunteers have added a magnitude of support
to NAESM from all over the community.
During the very beginning of NAESM, there have been countless numbers
of hours dedicated to assisting NAESM in accomplishing its goals
and objectives. Not only is NAESM grateful for community involvement,
but volunteering also allows the community to be part of the daily
operations of NAESM.
Although we are looking for volunteers on a never-ending basis,
we do have a few annual projects that may compliment your skills.
APRIL--NAESM
ANNUAL ART AUCTION
Battling AIDS with art is one of NAESM's primary fund raisers.
Since 1994, art from all over the country and some parts of the
world has been donated to the agency to support the mission of decreasing
the rate of HIV infection among people of color. Donated art
ranges from still photography to sculpture; oils to pastels; and
abstracts to portraits. This event also provides an opportunity
for new and local artists to exhibit their work to art bidders who,
through the purchase of art at one auction, has contributed over
$40,000 to NAESM. With the help of volunteers, sponsors, artists,
and the community, NAESM's art auction continues to shine successfully.
Volunteers are needed to assist in the planning and preparation
for the event. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact
Cherita Tatum, HR Manager at (404) 691-8880, ext. 16 or email: ctatum@naesmonline.org

school students from Fulton and DeKalb counties with the opportunity
to earn money while serving their communities. Since the pilot phase
in 2003, 319 youth have completed internships at 75 local nonprofit
agencies. Selected agencies and youth interns receive training during
their participation in the program to ensure a meaningful experience
for the youth interns and agencies. The program begins on June 5,
2006 and ends on July 28, 2006.
The 2006 Summer Youth Fellows Program will offer 120 part-time
youth intern positions. At the direction of the program's lead sponsor,
the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation,
the Summer Youth Fellows Program will partner with Project
GRAD Atlanta to target internships for students at Carver, South
Atlanta, and Washington high schools. The remaining slots will be
divided between Fulton County and DeKalb county student residents.
SEPTEMBER--ATLANTA PRIDE VILLAGE POOL PARTY
This is considered Atlanta's Black Pride. Starting back in 1995,
NAESM has played host to visitors from all over the country during
Labor Day weekend in Atlanta. September marks the last stop
for party-goers celebrating Black Gay Atlanta is known for it's
great weather so it is the perfect time for a cool dip in the water,
a tan and to relax in the shade while the summer days end with a
bang. This fundraiser allows the Department
of Health Education & Promotions to expand its programs
and the Department
of Client Services to assist those who are in need of emergency
financial assistance or transitional housing.
